Our Vaccination Protocol: Protecting Our Fur-Babies

Georgia ShihTzu Palace follows a conservative vaccine protocol, protecting both the short term and long term health of our beloved pets. Our first goal is to build immunity with proper healthy nutrition and cleaniness of environment.

Our schedule is a combo vaccine of Parvo, Adeno2, Distemper & Parainfluenza at 8, 12 and 16 weeks. (DA2PP) Then a 1 year booster. Another booster every 3 or 5 years of age. It has been proven that this amt of vaccine will protect them for life as it remains in their bodies at least 7 yrs.

Rabies is given at 16-24 weeks old then annually (as required by Georgia law). Check with your local animal shelter for once a month discounted vaccine clinics for $10-12 rabies vaccines.

We do not use Corona, Leptos, Lyme or Kennel Cough.

We use FrontlinePlus or Advantix to combat fleas and ticks only if needed and only on adult dogs. We use Dawn Dishwashing Liquid and Diatomaceous Earth Powder first to see if it will rid any flea infestation and for use on pups as needed.

We deworm at 3 weeks, 5 weeks, 7 weeks, 12 weeks. Our adults are wormed every 6 months.

We use heartworm preventative starting at 4 months.

This is my research on the topic of vaccinating our dogs. Please research for yourself the protocol you want to use and to form your own opinion. Don’t only take your vets opinion as they are in business to make money. Don’t over vaccinate if its not necessary. All 27 US vet schools are teaching the new protocol but most practices are not following the new guidelines. I’m passionate about this as I thought I had a vet I could trust yet we had a husky to die needlessly 2 hrs after receiving an unnecessary vaccination, a Shih Tzu to have neurological problems for 10 days following a treatment, and my mom‘s Maltese to suffer long term effects and death at an early age. Most importantly, give your pet a high quality diet.
